Videolan (VLC)

What's a video player doing in an audio category or vice versa? Videolan (or better known as VLC) if one of the premere audio/video players in the open source community. There are versions for Windows, Mac and all flavors of *Nix. It plays nearly any flavor of audio file format including ogg and flac and doesn't need to get plugins to do it. It plays flv files (Flashvideo format) too. VLC has its own wiki here.

Audacity

Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. Also check our for more information.
